Magical Leprechaun Garden

Happy St. Patrick's Day!  I would love to know how you celebrated.  If you have some lucky charms in your pantry, head to Handmade Charlotte for the tutorial on this magical leprechaun garden.  It's edible, and it involves leprechauns, so the kids will LOVE it!

"Vintage" Lucky Charm Piñatas

So, I pulled these Lucky Charm piñatas out of storage the other day, and they look a little rough from being shoved in a tub with a bunch of other projects for several years.  Since that aged them a bit, we'll just call them "vintage"!  In fact, the shooting star used to be orange and white, instead of orange and yellow, so "vintage" seems legit - right?!  Which color scheme do you prefer?  Lucky Charms cereal has always been my favorite inspiration for St. Patrick's Day, and you can find the original post for the piñatas here.  The tutorial for the treats can be found at Handmade Charlotte - and that is not milk in the bowl!  Be sure to check them out.

Don't forget to make a Leprechaun trap!  Lucky Charm Kabobs make the perfect bait, since Leprechauns looooooove Lucky Charms.  I think I'm part-Leprechaun.

You could make some Lucky Charms Sushi with pink milk "soy sauce"!  Find the tutorial here.  I also wanted to share the cutest shop with the most adorable fetti.  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

DIY Lucky Charms Sushi

Top o' the mornin' to ya!  You didn't think that I would let St. Patrick's Day slide by without a good ol' Lucky Charms DIY, did ya now?  I have to admit that this sushi didn't turn out exactly how I had envisioned it, but it's cute enough to eat, nonetheless!

Every year my kids look forward to a bowl of Lucky Charms on St. Patty's Day!  It's our favorite March 17 tradition.  These Lucky Charm Kabobs are probably still one of my all-time favorite posts on this little blog, and you have to check out the Lucky Charm Pinatas as well.  This year...it's SUSHI!  Lucky Charms sushi!  Actually, I realize they look like Lucky Charm patties, but sushi sounds cool, and a lot more appetizing!

I have seen a ton of cool candy and cereal sushi ideas this year, and decided to make a St. Patrick's Day version for my kids.  They LOVED it!

So, if you want to make some of your own...

WHAT YOU NEED

  • Lucky Charms Treats (see recipe here)
  • Extra Lucky Charms marshmallows
  • Icing
  • Wax paper
  • Butter
  • Knife
  • Strawberry milk + tiny bowl
  • Chopsticks (optional)
  • Sanding sugar (I used peach)

HOW TO

Step 1

Rub butter all over both hands, and flatten a ball of Lucky Charms Treats on a piece of wax paper.

Step 2

With freshly buttered hands, roll the piece into a log, and flatten the ends.

Step 3

Pour a pile of sanding sugar on your piece of wax paper, and spread it out. Roll your Lucky Charms "log" through the sanding sugar, until it is completely covered.

Step 4

Using a knife, cut the log into slices, making each slice about one inch wide.

Step 5

Once you are done slicing your "sushi" pieces, spread a small circle of frosting on the top of each piece.

Step 6

Add a couple of Lucky Charms marshmallows to the top of each piece, and you're almost done!

Step 7

Now you will need to pour strawberry milk in a small bowl, to be used as dipping sauce.

Enjoy!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Is it weird to think of cereal as "adorable"?  ...Because I think Lucky Charms are so darn cute!  I love their colors and shapes so much, that I decided to make mini lucky charm piñatas for St. Patrick's Day this year!  I am thinking about having a little St. Paddy's shindig with my kids and a few of their friends, and thought it would be fun for each child to take home their own little piñata.  Of course, we'll have to include some lucky charm kabobs too!

I have found so many great tutorials for these mini piñatas, so rather than write yet another one, I will direct you to Oh Happy Day.  I will say that the shooting star was a bit tricky, but I traced a little star cookie cutter, and did my best to arrange my fringe within the lines.   If you're looking to purchase other adorable mini piñatas, you should check out the Instagram account of the piñata queen herself...Lisa Frank.  Her work is seriously cuuuuute!  Happy St. Patrick's Day!

DIY Lucky Charm Kabobs

If you have not been successful in trapping a leprechaun, then perhaps you haven't been using the proper bait!  Leprechauns LOVE lucky charms, and I guarantee these mini kabobs will attract the little stinkers from miles away.  My daughter builds a trap every year, and writes a note to "Lenny" the leprechaun, and he always leaves something behind...like a box of lucky charms, or some chocolate gold coins.  I thought he might enjoy some special kabob treats this year.  You know, cookies for Santa...kabobs for leprechauns!  These would also make the perfect addition to your kids' lunches on St. Paddy's Day!

If you want to attract your own little Leprechauns, here's what you'll need...

lucky charm marshmallows
toothpicks
washi tape
microwave

1.  Microwave your lucky charm marshmallows for 15-20 seconds.  Only do a few at a time, or they will harden before you have them all on toothpicks.

2.  After microwaving, immediately insert a toothpick through 3 marshmallows, leaving a gap at the top for your washi tape flag.

3.  Take about a 2 inch strip of washi tape, and cut it in half (hot dog style), so you have two skinnier strips.

4.  Fold one strip in half over the top of your toothpick (hamburger style), and seal together.

5.  Cut a tiny triangle at the end of the washi tape, starting in each corner, and meeting in the middle.

Now you have a tasty little St. Patrick's Day treat!  Happy St. Paddy's Day!!!
